YEAR-ROUND

Superb IPA

American IPA

6.3% Alc by Vol

Superb IPA is not the first IPA we brewed, and it will not be the last, but it's one we wanted to enjoy all the time. Amarillo & Simcoe hops furnish an impression of Mango and Passion Fruit while a touch of Wheat and Oats provide a light, yet full mouth-feel.

Weekend Lager

Munich-Style Helles Lager

4.8% Alc by Vol

Weekend Lager is what we enjoy when we want to kick back. We took ten years to brew our first Lager and hope it was worth the wait. Made in the Munich Helles style and unfiltered like all our beer, it's a little spicy but wholly smooth.

Tavern Brown Ale

American Brown Ale

5.7% Alc by Vol

We've brewed Tavern Brown Ale since we started in 2006 and like us, it's come a long way. Six malt varieties meld with an English yeast strain and floral American hops to produce an approachable yet still complex American Brown ale.

Chesapeake Pale Ale

American Pale Ale

5.6% Alc by Vol

Chesapeake Pale Ale features a bright, floral aroma and flavor thanks to Cascade, Chinook, Amarillo and Centennial hops, used with a heavy hand in both the brewing and dry-hop process.

Protocol Porter

Robust Porter

5.6% Alc by Vol

Protocol Porter is boldly American, and big in all the right places. We brew this beer for, and with, rough hands and hearty appetites. Look for notes of roasted coffee and toasted cocoa.

SEASONAL

Coffeehouse

Coffee Stout - Available November through January

5.4% Alc by Vol

This Milk Stout is brewed with a generous amount of Guatemala Antigua coffee. There's a noticeably sweet character but we don't shy away from the coffee's bitter nature. It's the coffee drinker's coffee stout.

Thaw Amber Ale

Amber Ale - Available February through April

5.6% Alc by Vol

Perfect for both a hearty course sheltered from the freezing snow or the first picnic of the year when the weather breaks. The malty, gently sweet flavor is balanced with an herbal, citrus hop aroma.

White

Belgian Witbier - Available May through July

4.5% Alc by Vol

This Belgian-style Witbier is brewed with Coriander and Orange Peel. We took great care to respect the tradition of Belgian brewing when we set out to create this beer.

Pumpkin

Spiced Ale - Available August through October

7.3% Alc by Vol

Pumpkin is made solely with fresh ingredients, spiced and baked in the oven before added to the brew. Enjoy powerful notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar, and more from the beer commonly described as "Pumpkin Pie in a glass."

SPECIALTY

Bitter Valentine

Double IPA

8.3% Alc by Vol

A poured glass of Bitter Valentine is full of intentions and optimistic expectations. An empty glass of Bitter Valentine is getting dumped on February 13th, left to wonder if you will ever love again. Not especially challenging as the name implies, the flavor is exceptionally balanced and smooth with notes of citrus and pine from Pacific Northwest hops.

Secret Admirer

Double IPA

8.0% Alc by Vol

You do not expect this Double IPA; it finds you. You open with excited trepidation, swooning over the sweet perfume of citrus & mango. Your mind races clumsily only to return to a constant locus of adulation. The tempting aroma lingers, invading your senses while keenly awaiting your return. Kind, not bitter, and content only to love you from afar.

Minor Indiscretion

Double IPA

8.0% Alc by Vol

A refreshing blend of orange, tangerine and smooth vanilla combine with a creamy mouthfeel to produce a true flavor classic in this latest Alewerks Double IPA. Irreverently dry-hopped with loads of Mandarina Bavaria, Citra, Mosaic and vanilla beans. Smooth and aromatic, it’s sure to tempt.

Café Royale

Imperial Coffee Milk Stout

8.4% Alc by Vol

Brewed with locally roasted coffee and aged in VA & KY Bourbon barrels anywhere from three to twelve months. Each barrel is tasted individually to determine the vintage's unique blend; the sought profile is a palatable booziness softened by a dense, creamy sweetness with loud notes of coffee, chocolate, and vanilla.

Black Forest

Imperial Chocolate Stout

9.5% Alc by Vol

Inspired by the famous dessert, this beer recipe developed from barrels of unusual history. The imperial chocolate stout is aged in oak touched by Bourbon and brandy; Montmorency sour cherries are added to the barrels, and the result is a genuine dessert course in a glass. Hints of bourbon complement a creamy sweetness, as well as distinct notes of cherry, chocolate, and vanilla.

BBP

Bourbon Barrel Porter

9.0% Alc by Vol

Annually-released Imperial Porter, brewed with Caribbean unrefined sugar and aged in Virginia Gentleman Bourbon barrels. Notes of rich chocolate and caramel are complemented by vanilla and the aroma of Bourbon. Exceptional depth and balance in a rich, seductive experience.

LIMITED

Pancake House Stout

Imperial Breakfast Stout

8.5% Alc by Vol

Barrel-aged Imperial Stout brewed with maple syrup, oats, coffee, cocoa & vanilla beans aged on bacon.

Oktoberfest

German-Style Märzen

5.6% Alc by Vol

Oktoberfest is a traditional, German-style Märzen. Prior to refrigeration, Märzens were brewed in the Spring and tucked away to be enjoyed after the weather cooled. Märzenbier is full-bodied, rich and toasty with a warm copper color, and ours is faithful to that tradition.

Imperial Pumpkin

Imperial Amber Ale

9% Alc by Vol

An intensified version of the Alewerks Pumpkin Ale recipe aged three months in Virginia whiskey oak barrels. Enjoy a captivating, creamy dessert pleasure with a febrile, besotted backbone. Released annually in limited quantities for instant salient delectation.

Fun, Old-Fashioned Family Christmas Ale

Winter Warmer

8% Alc by Vol

Chestnut colored strong ale exuding holiday memories with its enticing blend of nutmeg, vanilla, clove, and other spices. A crisp edge at first is followed by a smooth, lingering sweetness.

Cranberry Weekend Lager

Cranberry Lager

6.6% Alc by Vol

This particular beer begins as Weekend Lager before and infusion of hundreds of pounds of cranberries. The result is a refreshing, smooth lager made sharply invigorating. Enjoy immediately as this beer is only available for a limited time.

Grand Illumination

Barrel-Aged Barleywine

9.5% Alc by Vol

Annually released Barleywine changes every year depending on what mood we're in. The 2018 vintage Grand Illumination is aged in bourbon barrels. Enjoy now or cellar for a special occasion.

Old Stitch

Brown Ale

5.6% Alc by Vol

The favorite of Northern England, Brown Ales were the standard drink of most people due to the contamination risks inherent to drinking water at the time. Inability to evenly control the heat of the kilns led to a darker grain color. The maltster's efforts resulted in a darker beer with a warm, nutty flavor. Old Stitch, named after a common slang term for the devil, is well-balanced, mild and toasty with a fine, foamy head. Evil never tasted so good.

Dear Old Mum

Brunswick Mum

5.6% Alc by Vol

Originating in Northern Germany, Brunswick Mum came to England during the reign of the house of Hanover. The German version was a medicinal beverage with many different herbs and spices, but in its journey to England lost most, but not all, of the additives becoming a light, spicy ale. Dear Old Mum is brewed with barley, wheat and oats and lightly spiced with coriander and grains of Paradise.
