Alewerks Brewing Company is committed to balance - the balance of ingredients that makes it easy to appreciate a beer, the balance of traditionalism with innovation, and the balance of passion and focus. Alewerks is committed to being proud of every ounce we brew.
In 2006 Charles "Chuck" Haines commenced a new stage in his life, gathering a group of investors to open Williamsburg Alewerks LLC. Inspired by time spent in Europe, Chuck aimed to share his passion for authentic, craft brewed ales with his friends in Virginia. Though not that far in the past, the scene was not nearly as friendly to craft breweries as it is now. Alewerks survived a challenging marketplace thanks to Chuck's tenacity and eye for talent. Too often queried, "What is Williamsburg Alewerks?" the more descriptive moniker "Alewerks Brewing Company" was adopted.
In 2008 Chuck wisely tapped accomplished musician Geoff Logan as Brewmaster. Geoff's output quickly and increasingly garnered recognition, awards, and respect. When Chuck officially retired as Managing Member at the end of 2015 the reins were handed to Geoff, leading to Alewerks being the rare brewer-driven brewery. With Geoff at the helm, Alewerks is committed to the beer first; we don't look to brew what sells, we sell what we brew.
Alewerks recently doubled capacity to keep up with increasing demand. From the first ale brewed at Alewerks to the recently introduced first lager, every member of the Alewerks team joined and remains due to pride in our fine beers and commitment to maintain quality and consistency during growth.
